What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive practice that is used to support relaxation, balance, and overall well-being for both humans and animals.
I believe it is a way of creating space for the recipient’s body and nervous system to slow down, settle, and return to a more natural state of balance.
When a recipient feels safe and relaxed, the body shifts out of stress mode. Breathing slows, muscles soften, and stress hormones reduce. This relaxation response is well documented in both humans and animals and plays an important role in physical and emotional well-being. Reiki sessions, whether hands-on or at a distance, are designed to encourage this state.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."
